This morning, right around the time the US was in bed for the night, Sveasoft attempted to win back customers by spamming it’s registered user base with 4 messages that went out. The reason I say Spammed is because of the amount and the fact that my subscription ran out over a year ago. In all four email, the message is almost exactly the same, except for 5 letters.
The reason I say that they’re attempting to win back customers is because they’ve slowly been losing market share to other Open Source Projects based on the same, or similar, code base. The OSS community went up in arms about Sveasoft awhile back due to the dubious practice of requiring a $20 subscription to a website that has Open Source Software in it. Sveasoft gets around the whole OSS issue by allowing public access to older builds of software.
Sadly, people are paying $20 for, what I consider, substandard software. While using Sveasoft, I had numerous issues that required me to reboot every one of my routers every few days. I’ve since upgraded to OpenWRT and love it.
The message:
The final release of Sveasoft’s Talisman/Basic firmware is now available as a public firmware. Please see out downloads section for access to the firmware builds.

This firmware supports router models from ASUS, Buffalo Technology, Linksys, and Netgear.

No way to unsubscribe, no information as to why this is the first email in 2 years - nothing. Sounds desperate for a company that relies on $20 subscriptions for router software.
