I had recently thought about downloading a trial of MoveableType. Needless to say, I was too lazy and someone else beat me to the punch - entirely with screen shots and all. The winner: Read the article to find out.

War Profiteer Makes Millions on Shipping Screws and Washers

It seems that War Profiteers are all over the place. This one happens to be a small shop out of South Carolina named C&D Distributors.

The twin sister company made millions by charging extreme shipping costs for screws and washers. They managed to get by the auditing system because of a self-paying system that automatically paid out costs on Priority Items.

This happened a while ago, but one sister has decided to plead guilty, the other: Dead.

Now, in these “hard times”, one may think that they did it because they needed money or something went horribly wrong. No. They did it specifally for profit. Now owning multiple homes and properties, fine jewelery and exotic cars - all of which the government hopes to auction off to get their money back. The story on Yahoo.

High School Students Forced To Select Major

In several states, high school students are being forced to select their Major so their entire high school curriculum is laid out for them. Don’t know about you, but I didn’t know what the heck I was thinking in school…

Lets see, first, in my younger years, I wanted to be an Ambulance driver so I could speed. When I “grew up” a little, I decided that I wanted to be a computer programmer. The guidance counselor at one of the high schools I attended literally told me that I was aiming extremely high for myself and I better choose something else. Later (ie: 20 minutes), I decided the counselor was right and I wanted to become a web programmer.

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have picked this field. It took me 10 years out of school to decide what I really wanted to do - Mechanical Engineering. I can code, play with hardware, work with theories and such - all in one day.

Anyway, read over the 2 page article and see what you think of this issue.

Google Shuts Down Code Sharing Blog

FacebookSecrets, the site that shared the code released by the Facebook servers, has been shut down with a DMCA notice. At this point, it’s popped back up as a SBlog (Spam Blog) and the original author has popped up, yet again.

This time, (s)he has published the notices Google has forwarded onto them. Check out that new blog. The blogger apparently tried to contact Google about the notice because there is a second email that is shared stating that Google had to work with a third party otherwise they themselves would be infringing on copyright.

So where does all of this end? Facebook, unintentionally, leaked their code. It was effectively published online for all to see and someone took the chance to publish that code in other places. To use the Journalist world - if you worked on the story of your life and left it sitting on a copier for 5 minutes - do you think someone would copy this great story and publish it before you? Of course they would.

If I where dumb enough to leave my code hanging out to dry, especially the way Facebook’s code looked, I wouldn’t spend time and money on take down notices. My entire dev team would be renaming functions, recoding and changing things around to make the site more secure and a little faster. Facebook needs to count their blessings that they’re include files for the database where not leaked or found. With server names, usernames, password, etc - it could have been nasty, unless it happened and no one is talking.

RIAA Bankrupt?

It looks like the RIAA is having problems paying the bills. So much so that one of their lawyers filed suite against them for unpaid bills. She won…

Now, a month or so later, they still haven’t paid the bills and she’s just filed a motion to seek Post Judgment Collections.

Judgement should be entered to enable Defendant Deborah Foster to immediately commence
post judgment collection proceedings, including but not limited to registration of the judgment(s)
in various federal courts for execution and hearings on assets.1

I love it!

While I wish this could be the end of the RIAA (I really consider them part of the Mob due to the way they act), I seriously doubt they’ll just float away and never be heard from again.
