Internet Root Servers Attacked - All Hell Breaks Loose

Posted by Justin on February 07, 2007
Chicken Little, Computers /

In the most brazen attack since the internet was invented, would be hackers attempted to disrupt online traffic by saturating 23% of the root servers online. According to the AP, the Homeland Security Department confirmed it was monitoring what it called “anomalous” Internet traffic.

Even though the hackers attempted to hide their tracks, this attack appears to have originated from South Korea.

I’ve had people around me all morning talking about this. The above sounds pretty bad, until you break it down. Continue reading…

A Call For Rent A Coder (RAC) Comments

Company Reviews /

I’ve finally sat down and got the time to write a detailed review of another company - call it a complete company profile like I did with Krugle.

You’ve probably already noticed that there is not a comments section down below… This is because I’m requiring people to email me their experiences. This is so I can reply to anyone with questions I may have. Your comments may also be included in my story.

Please use the contact link at the top of the page to email me. Sorry, but don’t need to be going through all of my stories later to update email addresses if I ever change it.

Now, I’m looking for constructive feedback. This means if you like something, don’t tell me that you just tell me that you like it - tell me why. The same goes for any dislikes. I don’t care if you’re a developer, seller, person who records their voice for projects or anything else - I’ll take all feedback.

I’m also working with RAC (well, it’s more like they’re working with me and allowing me time to interview them) and hope to interview a few people in the company. [Note: This is not a paid project in any fashion - I'm doing this on my own time for my own curiosity.] I’m hoping to have this story done within 2-3 weeks, but due to other projects, it may take longer to compile everything that I want. I tend to pound out a quick draft then edit it to death…

I will also be lurking around the RAC website and will probably contact a few people for opinions - call it a random survey/sample of the current customer base. I may take a very small project as well to see how the process goes, but I can only do this if I have the time.

Anywho - I’d like to extend a big Thanks! to anyone willing to comment. Who knows, you may get your profile and picture in the article like the Krugle guys did…

Being Completely Anonymous Online

Life and Living, Websites /

A lot of people state that you can be anonymous online - I use to be one of them, but I sat down and thought about it for awhile and felt that, in today’s society, you really can’t be anonymous.

For instance, you may want to setup some website where you would want to remain anonymous, from everyone, including governments, you can’t. Here are some pretty good examples:

1: Your domain name can be traced directly to you via a whois. Sure, you can turn on the privacy feature, but depending on where the company is, a warrant can be served for the billing name and address. Your payment options are limited since all Continue reading…

Boston Bomb Scare

Posted by Justin on February 01, 2007
Life and Living /

I’m sure most people have heard about Boston’s Bomb scare, but this just amazes me. How can half the city shut down and freak out over something like this? When was the last time a guerrilla marketing campaign caused a city-wide bomb scare? People are just stupid today…

Half of Boston is upset at two guys because of these “bombs”. Perhaps the only thing they should be in trouble for is not calling the police after the initial scares went out. Other than that, I think that the people of Boston are to blame for over reacting. After looking at what the “bombs” where, I would have laughed myself silly.

This issue caused a national sensation and even caused a Fox News Alert where these two boneheads made some hairy comments (”hairy” was a pun in case you didn’t get it.) They may be boneheads, but I completely applaud them for making fools out of the media over this. But really - watch the video and tell me what you think of these “bombs”. Calm down people.

In other news, Google’s EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Team defused the GoogleBombing plot
