Quicktime: Bad Movie Atom

The "I figured it out" Dept.

I recently tried to watch a few movie trailers on Apples website. On 2 computers, I had the same errors - broken quicktime links and a message about a bad atom in the movie.

What is an Atom?
An atom is a file that holds data about the picture. Normally, this is copyright info, etc.

How to fix?
I decided to make this pure and simple - upgrade to the newest Quicktime. This will force you to install iTunes as well though. This only works on WinXP/Win2000. Unfortunately, for dinosaurs like my laptop, I’m screwed - no quicktime for it - looks like its time to upgrade the OS to Linux.

Why is this happening?
Basically, the newest Quicktime Codecs that Apple has published for encoding new media made it impossible to be backwards compatible with older versions of thier software. To me, this was to get more people to download the iTunes software so they could get a better stream of new customers. In my opinion, this was a nasty way to do it.
